About Dawa

Dawa is a joyful wellness movement created to inspire people to reclaim their health and connection to ancestral ways of living. Founded in 2019, since our inception our core belief is that nature is our first medicine and that healthy communities are reestablished when we live in harmony with nature.

Mission

At Dawa, our mission is to guide communities in nourishing their bodies, reconnecting with nature, and reestablishing wellness practices rooted in ancestral wisdom.

Vision

DAWA envisions a future where each family has a Family Medicine Keeper, and communities thrive through collective healing rooted in ancestral wisdom

Our Guiding Principles

Dawa operates through five interconnected principles. Each principle represents a form of medicine that supports individual, family, and community wellbeing.

Ancestral Wisdom

Reclaiming Ancestral Wisdom as a Path to Vibrant Health

Reclaiming Ancestral Wisdom restores traditional knowledge systems that have sustained communities for generations. Through ancestral foodways, storytelling, seasonal rhythms, and intergenerational practices, Dawa supports communities in reconnecting with their roots as a foundation for collective healing for many generations.

Womb & Birth

Honoring the Womb & Holistic Family Wellness

Womb & Birth affirms the sacredness of the womb, the childbearing years, and the importance of holistic family wellness. From fertility preparation to postpartum care, this pillar supports women and families through education, nourishment, and culturally rooted practices that strengthen confidence, autonomy, and vibrant health, starting at the womb.

Healing in Community

Community as Medicine & Leadership Development

Healing in Community recognizes that healing is amplified in community. Through healing circles, leadership trainings, retreats, and shared learning spaces, DAWA fosters connection, leadership, and collaborative action that builds resilient families and thriving communities. People are guided not only to learn, but to apply, teach, and carry forward this wisdom within their families and communities.

Dawa Definitions

Dawa - Nature's medicine in the Kiswahili language

Ancestral Wellness/ Wisdom - A holistic approach to health rooted in the traditional practices, foods, rhythms, and healing systems of indigenous peoples. It emphasizes living in harmony with nature, honoring the body’s innate wisdom, and restoring cultural practices that support physical, emotional, spiritual, and generational well-being.

Community Commitment

Many families experience barriers to holistic wellness education that is accessible and based on lived experience. Modern systems often prioritize treatment over prevention, disconnect individuals from nature, and overlook the ancestral knowledge that has sustained communities for generations.

At Dawa, we believe that communities deserve access to education and spaces where prevention and nourishment through nature are centered as everyday priorities. We are committed to supporting families through education that encourages confidence and self-sufficiency away from the toxicity of modern systems.

Through our offerings and healing tools, DAWA commits to helping cultivate healthier families, stronger communities, and a reconnection with ancestral wellness practices that can be carried forward for generations.
