About the event
The DAWA Birth with Joy Community Day is a gathering designed to empower families with ancestral wisdom, community support, and resources for a joyful birthing experience. This event creates a nurturing space where expectant families, birth workers, and community members can come together to celebrate, learn, and connect. We are hosting this experience during Black Maternal Health Week!
Who this is for
Expecting parent (yes we need the Fathers in this space), Grandmothers, Aunties, Birth workers, L&D nurses, anyone in the community who cares about the well being of Black Maternal Health.
What to Expect
Community & Connection: A welcoming space where families can build relationships, share experiences, and find support for their birthing journey.
Nourishing Offerings: Enjoy light bites and herbal teas crafted to nourish the body and spirit.
Wellness Demonstrations & Activities: Hands-on experiences that explore holistic approaches to pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care.
Movement Workshops: Gentle movement and breathwork to support a joyful and embodied birth experience.
Self-Guided Learning Stations: Interactive stations providing knowledge on ancestral birthing practices, postpartum nourishment, herbal remedies, and more.
Resource Vendors: Access to doulas, midwives, lactation consultants, and wellness professionals offering guidance and services.
Children’s Play Space: A dedicated area for little ones to engage in creative and joyful play while parents explore the fair.
Why This Matters
The journey into parenthood should be filled with joy, confidence, and community support. However, many families—especially Black and Brown families—face challenges accessing culturally relevant, holistic birthing resources.
The DAWA Birth with Joy Community Day is a direct response to this need, creating a space where families can learn, heal, and prepare for birth in a way that honors their unique traditions and experiences.
