Writer's picture: Tayler ClemmTayler Clemm

Repeat after me, "Painful periods are not normal".

In the sacred rhythm of our menstrual cycles lies a profound opportunity for connection, empowerment, and healing.

Drawing from ancestral wisdom, we can embrace simple yet powerful practices to honor our bodies, ease discomfort, and cultivate a deeper sense of well-being during our periods.

Continue to read until the end to learn more about eliminating hormonal birth control, and the importance of teaching our daughters about Ancestral Womb Wellness.

Here are 11 practical tips for women to have empowering and painless periods:

  1. Daily Womb Massage: Take a few moments each day to gently massage your lower abdomen with warm oil. This ancient practice promotes circulation, relieves tension, and nourishes the womb. Add Lavendar or Frankinsense essential oil for an added healing and relaxing benefit.

  2. Belly Binding: Wrap a soft cloth around your belly during your period to provide gentle support and comfort. This traditional practice can help alleviate cramps and promote relaxation.

  3. Hydration: Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day. Hydration supports optimal blood flow and can help ease menstrual cramps. Being hydrated is so important!

  4. Rest: Listen to your body's cues and prioritize rest during your period. Allow yourself to slow down, relax, and recharge your energy.

  5. Journal Reflections: Set aside time for journaling to reflect on your menstrual cycle, emotions, and experiences. Writing can be a powerful tool for processing emotions and gaining insight into your body's wisdom.

  6. Intentional Breathing/Meditation: Practice deep breathing exercises or meditation to calm the mind and soothe the nervous system. Mind-body practices can help reduce stress and alleviate menstrual discomfort.

  7. Herbal Tea: Sip on herbal teas like ginger, chamomile, or raspberry leaf to support menstrual health and ease cramps. These botanical allies can provide gentle relief and promote relaxation. One of my all time favorite herbs is Nettle Leaf for womb health.

  8. Nourishing Food: Fuel your body with nourishing, whole foods during your period. Focus on nutrient-rich foods like leafy greens, fruits, whole grains, and healthy fats to support hormonal balance and energy levels. Food is everything. Start to listen to your body after you eat something. How does it make you feel? Does your body cramp up after it? Keeping a food journal is a good idea until you discover what is triggering any discomfort. Foods rich in magnesium, such as nuts, seeds, leafy greens, and whole grains, and legumes should be prioritized for womb health.

  9. Movement: Engage in gentle movement practices like walking, yoga, or tai chi to promote circulation and ease muscle tension. Movement can help alleviate menstrual cramps and uplift your mood.

  10. Toxic-Free Products: Opt for non-toxic menstrual products like organic cotton pads or menstrual cups to reduce exposure to harmful chemicals. Choose natural body care products free from synthetic fragrances and harsh ingredients.

  11. Joy: Make time for activities that bring you joy and uplift your spirit. Whether it's spending time in nature, connecting with loved ones, or pursuing creative hobbies, prioritizing joy can enhance your overall well-being.

Avoiding Hormonal Birth Control: It's important to note that hormonal birth control may offer temporary relief from period pain but can also come with potential side effects. These may include mood swings, weight gain, decreased libido, and increased risk of blood clots and other health concerns. Instead, consider natural alternatives and holistic approaches to menstrual health.

Teaching Our Young Girls Proper Womb Care: Empowering young girls with knowledge about their menstrual cycles and proper womb care is essential for fostering a positive relationship with their bodies. By teaching them about menstrual health, self-care practices, and the importance of honoring their cycles, we can support them in embracing their femininity and navigating their reproductive health with confidence.

Embrace the wisdom of our ancestors and honor your menstrual cycle as a sacred journey of self-discovery and empowerment. By incorporating these ancestral tips into your self-care routine, you can cultivate a deeper connection to your body, ease period discomfort, and experience greater well-being.
